As the continuation of the collaboration between Eka Hospital and Mayo Clinic – USA, the two institutions held collaboration in a form of transfer of knowledge. It was a discussion between management and medical/ non medical staff, either from Eka Hospital or Mayo Clinic. The four days discussion (Tuesday – Friday (14^th-17^th of February 2012) was attended by Mr. Randy Mulyadi, President Director of Eka Hospital and Dr. Esther Nurima, MARS, Corporate Director of Eka Hospital, all the management, doctors, and medical/ non medical staff of Eka Hospital. Meanwhile, there were six representatives from Mayo Clinic, Thomas R. Behrenbeck M.D., PhD., SCCP, Melissa Anne Goodwin, David J. Roseman, M. D, Todd J. Bille, Ronald G. Amodeo, Jr, and Rashid A. Fehmi, CPA. Besides visiting Eka Hospital BSD, the guests from Mayo Clinic also visited Eka Hospital Pekanbaru on Thursday, 16^th of February 2012.

The discussion itself discussed about health care system, the use of resources, the development of health care, also the improved of quality service. Besides discussion, team of Mayo Clinic also had a chance to do hospital tour, chatting with nurses and doctors and greeting patients in the wards. They expressed their admiration of the facilities and services at Eka Hospital.

Through discussions, many information and positive things about the quality service of a hospital that can be shared between the two hospitals. Discussions went interactively and put positive point of views for both sides. Mayo Clinic with their 140 years experience is certainly has more successful stories and rewarding experiences that is important to be known by other hospital in order to maintain the health care quality, which is oriented toward patient’s safety.  This transfer of knowledge is one of beneficial activities, especially for Eka Hospital with its mission to become the leading healthcare provider network that serves the community with passion & compassion.

On 13^th of May, our fifth child was born when my age reached 40 years old. We named our little angel Nurin Qurrota Aini. After three weeks since her birthday, a bruise was found on the tip of her nose. At first, I thought it was because of my carelessness of taking care of her. However two weeks after, that bruise kept getting bigger and almost covered the surface of our daughter’s nose.

As a mother, my feelings told me that this might be a tumor because her nose is getting bigger and swollen more each day, but I tried not to think of it. At last, my husband and I decided to conduct a consultation with pediatrician. And I was right, the doctor said that there is a benign tumor growing in her vein, however it’s not malignant.

According to the doctor, within 2 years the tumor will disappear by itself, without any treatments or medicines given. However, the fear and anxiety kept haunting me when the bruise is getting worse, and the color has changed into darker. Once again we decided to take Nurin to other hospital for consultation with pediatrician in order to get the right treatment and medication.

The disappointment came back at us, when the doctor gave us the similar explanation as the doctor before. He suggested us to do the treatment if by the age of three months, the bruise covers her nose and will make difficulty for her to breathe. Knowing that we did not get the satisfying answer, we continued seeing various pediatricians, plastic surgeons, until herb therapists just to cure our little daughter.

Yes, it was hemangioma. Within three months, her nose became bigger and darker, as if it resembled a trunk of an elephant that made people scared, sad, and pitty her for her look. In our desperate moment, my parents suggested to take her to Eka Hospital. As we arrived in the hospital with “Care for Better Health” as its motto, ENT doctor referred Nurin to Dr. Ferdinand, SpBP, as the plastic surgeon. It was obvious that the collaboration among team of doctors went very well in treating patients. Our complaints were handled swiftly and professional and Nurin was taken care of immediately.

We thanked God for all the blessings, and the sadness that had been hunting us suddenly just vanished. All the prayer every day and night was answered. Through the doctor’s hands, Nuri’s disease was gradually recovered. Besides that, the skillful Dr. Ferdinand, SpBP gave us moral support for us to be strong in facing this hard situation.

Thank you so much to Eka Hospital Pekanbaru for the best service, and also to Dr. Ferdinand, SpBP who patiently follows Nurin’s condition development. We will remember Eka Hospital for wiping our tears.

INMA is an event of an appreciation for in-house magazines that are made by Public Relations practitioners and experts, graphic designers, and media. Similar event has been established for magazines and national newspapers since 2009, while for in-house magazine, the event just held by now.

INMA Award was followed by some government institutions, SOE, education institutions, also national and multinational private companies. For the category of private company itself, there were 64 companies participated. This award was held in commemoration of National Press Day 2012 on 7th of February in Jambi.

When is the right time to conduct Pre-Medical Check Up?
Basically, Pre-Marital Medical Check Up can be done anytime, however the right time is six months before the wedding. So it is better if you can examine the health condition for both of you before getting married.

If any problems found from the result, doctor will perform a treatment to minimize further risks that may arise.

Pre-Marital Medical Check Up:

1. In general, Pre-Marital Medical Check Up includes blood test routine and hemoglobin analysis to check if there are any blood abnormalities, for an example, thalassemia trait.
2. Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) is conducted to know about the inflammation process.
3. Blood type and Rhesus factor test, to know the possibility of baby’s blood type. The blood type and rhesus test are useful for the fetus.

This event was held in order to introduce the importance of dental check earlier and also to reduce their fear towards dentist. According to Claudia, one of the teachers, the students were nervous and scared when they were told about this. But after they were given further explanations, they got excited to see the dentist.

After the examination was done, they were pretty relieved yet surprised that it was not bad at all. Some of them said that going to the dentist is a fun thing to do, and they even can’t wait for the next dentist appointment. They got more excited when Eka Hospital’s staff took them for hospital tour to gain more knowledge about Eka Hospital.

Tooth cavities are the common case that is frequently experienced by children. The hobby of consuming sweets and lack of discipline of brushing teeth regularly are the main cause of these tooth cavities. Eka hospital hopes that this event may provide benefits for students of Saint John Elementary School and can raise the sense of the importance of dental check regularly since the early age.
